Female Wizard
About
Using the moniker Female Wizard, Alexander Powers has vitalised Melbourne’s dance music community for almost a decade, spearheading a new wave of queer DJing and playing acclaimed festivals and events such as Bolier Room, Golden Plains, Dark Mofo, Soft Centre and Hybrid. Her galvanizing sets, known for creating collective transcendence through powerful sonic immersion, have featured on globally renowned music broadcasting platforms NTS and Rinse FM, and in her ongoing residency at local cult underground queer night Le Fag. During 2021 Powers began work on her genre-defying album TIE-EE-YIE-EE-YIE-EE-YIME released by Heavy Machinery Records, for which she was awarded Best Electronic Act at the 2021 Music Victoria Awards. As a music organiser, Powers has devised Powertrip, a club night, mix series and record label whose aim is to cultivate community, encourage experimentation and provide a platform for local producers and DJs.
