X4NDR4 is the moniker of artist Josie Alexandra - etherial & mythical X4NDR4's dreamy spoken word soundscapes are crafted from the magic of language with assistance from coding software & audio manipulation.
Josie is an emerging experimental artist, whose practice responds to the need for plausible futurisms for trans & neurodiverse folk. Their multifaceted performances include video installation, sound art, music and performance poetry.
In 2020 Josie co-produced with Douglas McDowell ‘TRANSIT AEAEA’ an EP of six electronic-jazzy spoken-word soundscapes, releasing this work under their moniker X4NDR4.
Working with Khyaal Vocal Ensemble, in 2021 Josie collaboratively produced _S-P_I-N_E- a two-part event of visual, performance poetry & vocal improvisation at Tempo Robarto in April 2021. The first half of the event included performance poetry from their poetry book ‘imprints of witness’ backed by improvisation sonics and a visual score projected onto the dresses worn by the ensemble. The second half of the event was a sonic score whereby Khyaal Vocal Ensemble interpreted Josie’s spinal tattoo.
In February 2022, Josie presented creative development from their current project ‘politics of interiority // life’s a computer game’ titled “Concept Zone” - a sonic-poetry performance as part of Baby Queers at HareHole in Fitzroy; showcasing work where digital audio workstations manipulated & extended poetry into multi-directional spherical sound poems.
