We met as members of the Troupe theatre group in mid-1970s Adelaide. In the 80s Virginia performed three solo works while Keith wrote for youth theatre and was Artistic Director of the State Theatre Company SA 1984-85. In Sydney we formed Open City, a multidiscplinary performance company producing major works at Performance Space 1987-1996. Keith wrote for Legs on the Wall in the early 90s and later for The opera Project, all at Performance Space. Virginia was chair of Playworks, the National Women Writers Workshop, 1992-99. In 1994 we founded RealTime, the national arts magazine. RealTime co-published Bodies of Thought, Twelve Australian Choreographers, edited by Erin Brannigan and Virginia, with Wakefield Press in 2014. In 2022 we were each awarded an Order of Australia for our services to performance, writing and publishing. The photograph by Robert McFarlane is of us in Tokyo Two, Performance Space 1992.
