Rameka Tamaki (Tūhoe, Maniapoto, Samoan, Tongan, Ingarihi) is a Classically trained Guitarist from Aotearoa. With a vast repertoire he offers insight into this world while exploring contemporary performances in a modern context. Through mastery and dedication, sound and color come to life through the mini orchestra known as the classical guitar.
His recent projects include a collaboration with Activist and Artist Tame Iti at his exhibition ‘I Will Not Speak Maori’ in Te Upoko O te Ika a Maui, and musical production alongside Laughton Kora as a part of the rock super group MAGMA for Mana Moana.
He has completed his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at Te Kōkī - The New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington. He received the Therle Drake UG Music Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student, The Freemasons Lankhuyzen/Whetu-Kairangi Music Award, and The Jack C Richards Scholarship for student excellence. Some of his notable performances include Principle Cast Member in The New Zealand Opera Company - Barber of Seville, The Tairawhiti Winter Concert Series, Classical on Cuba, and Ahi Kā Matariki Festival for 3 years.
