Katrina E. Bastian

About

Katrina has won multiple awards including the New Zealand Fringe 'Best in Fringe', 'Best Dance', and 'Best Performance' award for their solo Soliloquy in Sweat. She has toured Soliloquy throughout New Zealand and to Singapore. Katrina is the recipient of two Creative New Zealand Arts Grants for her works The Hollowing (2020) and Extanz Vol I. & II. (2021/22). They hold a Masters Degree in Choreography from Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch and graduated with honors. They have danced with internationally acclaimed companies Black Grace Dance Company and the New Zealand Dance Company. Katrina currently dances with Sergiu Matis, Stephan Herwig, and Rachel Monosov while also pursuing her own choreographic work. Seamlessly navigating between improvisation and set choreographic material she emphasizes the ‘body under pressure’ as resilient and a source of authentic expression. Katrina’s work interrogates binaries in an attempt to ‘muddy the waters’ and trigger an associative athleticism towards a queerer future.
