About
Gabriel Faatau'uu-Satiu is a proud storyteller of Samoan heritage living and working in Darug & Dharawal country. He is the creative director of Satiu Studios, one of few independent production companies dedicated to Pacific voices and stories in the country.
In 2024, Gabriel did the following:
- Showcased 'One Ocean, Many Waves' at 107 Projects, a film installation he produced/directed featuring 30+ Pacific people from all Pacific regions (Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia) across Sydney highlighting the experiences of what it means to be a Pacific person living in the diaspora.
- Co-produced House of IMAN's Housewarming Vogue Night at the Riverside Theatres Parramatta.
- Worked as a creative producer for Creative Australia, working on Creative Australia's Asia Pacific Arts Awards 2024.
- Co-founded the Tagata Moana Writers Hub, a much-needed space for a group of Pacific writers (across all forms) to meet monthly and is where Gabriel wrote the play, Where I'm From.
- Won Best Emerging Producer at the Sydney Fringe Festival in September of 2024 for their play, 'Where I'm From' - a celebration of pan-Pacific storytelling through traditional song & cultural dance. In December of 2024, they collaborated with SCCALA (Samoan Community Culture Arts & Language Association) to remount 'Where I'm From' as part of their EOY showcase where Gabriel played the supporting role of Armani, a fa'afafine, and one of the lead character's BFFs.
- Won the Arts Open Category from the NSW Council for Pacific Communities at the Pasifika Awards Night of 2024.
- In collaboration with the National Theatre of Parramatta, curated a night of storytelling featuring members of the Tagata Moana Writers Hub and featured his new work, 'The Western Line' - a trilogy series highlighting the different forms of Pacific navigation.
- Curated a line-up of Pacific creatives and facilitated the 'Tagata Moana Creative Hangout' at the SXSW Festival 2024.
- Led a Pacific Writer's Room with the Tagata Moana Writers Hub in collaboration with the Pasifika Film Festival and Arts & Cultural Exchange.
- Facilitated a storytelling workshop at the 'It Takes A Village' youth conference with Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts.
