About

Gabriel Faatau’uu-Satiu is a proud storyteller of Sāmoan heritage living and working in Darug & Dharawal country. He is the founder and creative director of Satiu Studios, one of few independent production companies dedicated to Pacific voices and stories in the country.
Just in the last 12 months, Gabriel has done the following:
  • Showcased ‘One Ocean, Many Waves’ at 107 Project, a documentary inspired film installation he produced/directed featuring 30+ Pacific people from all Pacific regions (Polynesia Melanesia and Micronesia) across Sydney highlighting the experiences of what it means to be a Pacific person living in the diaspora.
  • Co-produced House of IMAN’s Housewarming Vogue Night at the Riverside Theatres Parramatta
  • Worked as a Creative Producer for the Asia Pacific Arts Awards in 2024
  • Co-founded the Tagata Moana Writers Hub, a much-needed space for a group of Pacific writers (across multiple forms) to meet monthly and is where Gabriel wrote his play, Where I’m From.
  • Won Best Emerging Producer at the Sydney Fringe Festival in September of 2024 for their play, Where I’m From, a celebration of pan-Pacific storytelling through traditional song & cultural dance. In December of 2024, they collaborated with SCCALA (Sāmoan Community Culture Arts & Language Association) to remount ‘Where I’m From as part of their EOY showcase. Gabriel played the supporting role of Armani, a fa’afafine and one of the lead character’s BFFs.
  • Won the Arts Open category from the NSW Council for Pacific Communities at the Pasifika Awards Night of 2024.
  • In collaboration with the National Theatre of Parramatta, curated a night of Pacific storytelling featuring members of the Tagata Moana Writers Hub and featured his new theatre work, The Western Line - a trilogy series highlighting the different forms of Pacific navigation.
  • Led a Pacific Writer’s Room with the Tagata Moana Writers Hub in collaboration with the Pasifika Film Festival and Arts and Cultural Exchange
  • Facilitated a storytelling workshop at the ‘It Takes a Village’ youth conference with Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts
  • Worked as a creative & cultural consultant for the NSW Waratah’s Cultural Round media campaign
  • Worked with Madman Entertainment as an event coordinator and community engagement officer for the Australian premiere screenings of Tinā across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Gabriel is eager to celebrate queer Pacific stories which are under-represented in the LGBTQIA+ communities. He is currently co-writing a feature film which has been commissioned by the Powerhouse Museum and is very excited to be part of Performance Space’s Queer Development Program to give life to MVPFAFF++ a queer acronym made up of queer Pacific identities.
