David Huggins is an independent dance artist who supports his practice with a job in hospitality. He began his dance training while completing a psychology degree in Aotearoa New Zealand, before moving to Australia. In 2010, he graduated with a Bachelor of Dance from the Victorian College of the Arts and spent eight years dancing with Russell Dumas' Dance Exchange, performing both nationally and internationally.
He has also collaborated with artists such as Douglas Wright, Xavier Le Roy, Rhiannon Newton, Martin Del Amo, Rochelle Haley, and Josie & Kosta. In 2018 and 2019, David trained and performed with the late Nihon-buyō Master Akashi Suma.
In addition to his work as a dancer, David has explored his choreographic interests through residencies at Movement Art Practice (NZ), PAF (France), NES (Iceland), DanceBox (Japan), ReadyMade Works (Australia), and Critical Path (Australia).
His first full-length work, Once More, with Feeling, has been presented at Dunedin Fringe (Ōtepoti Dunedin), FOLA-Festival of Live Art (Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland), and Andromeda Theatre (Ōtautahi Christchurch).
