ABOUT
Here at PSpace we champion risk and experimentation and have supported artists for 40 years to make new work and explore new ways of thinking and how art engages with technology. There are few revolutions in art that have caused as much debate as the introduction of AI into the creative sphere. Whilst some within our artist community are working with this technology in bold new ways, other artists find it a moral affront.
Thanks to our friends at The Works, we are excited to be able to present the UnSeen Machine project - including hosting a free artist-led debate to find out how our community feels on the subject. This debate will be held at 2pm on Sunday 29 October at Carriageworks.
We acknowledge that mere engagement with AI in any form may seem controversial, however we wish to assure you that we have approached the creation of The UnSeen Machine with as much rigorous planning, artist focussed care and consent as possible. Whilst we acknowledge that the AI’s ‘intelligence’ is gained from machine learning, all images generated are built using input from a selection of images from the PSpace 40 year archive. All photographers and artists responsible for the creation of these images have been consulted about the UnSeen Machine processes and have given their explicit consent to be involved in the experiment. We hope for the UnSeen Machine to help start a conversation about the place of AI in art; a conversation that will continue at our debate and into the future.
