The CREATION project is presented in partnership with the Musum of Contemporary Art. It has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body. CREATION has also been supported by the City of Sydney and by the NSW Government through Create NSW. Build a new faith for our fractious era. Deborah Kelly’s extraordinary CREATION project sees the construction of a new belief system with which to confront the rise of the irrational and its threat to civil society: one that emulates the emotive and sensual allure of religious faith. CREATION will offer secular society the senses of sacredness, ritual and connection that mobilise religious communities.
In hysterical, beautiful rebuke to climate denialism, complacency and cowardly leadership, this evolving work calls on collective wisdom to create a passionate life of the spirit for an unfolding epoch. In CREATION: The Dance award-winning choreographer Angela Goh has heard the call. Every religion needs manifestation of movement. Over five days, a group of dancers have joined Angela and Deborah in a workshop to build a liturgical dance from the ground up, culminating in a public display of devotion.
Exclusive to Liveworks, CREATION: The Dance is a vital component of this ambitious undertaking. CREATION is being developed around Australia with writers, storytellers, visual artists, musicians and ritual-makers, through the co-creation of songs, manifesto, costumes, moving image works, parables, iconography, ceremonial dance, mysteries, rituals and believers. This is your chance to witness the beginning of this landmark project.
