Fusing Filipinx myth, puppetry and queer pageantry as ceremony, AEON†: EPISODE I is the world premiere of a new body of work imagined by acclaimed Sydney artist Justin Shoulder. AEON† births a hypnotic ecology of beings that emerge from the muck of a decomposing parallel world.
Aeon—meaning a vital force, or an indefinite period of time—bears tension with †(dagger): the symbol placed beside the name of a species indicating it has become extinct. The world of AEON† speculates a realm between the infinite and the definite. The performance space becomes a fertile petri dish incubating distinct and recombinant organisms.
With an extraordinary team of collaborators including Corin (music composition) Matthew Stegh (co-designer), Victoria Hunt (mentor and collaborator) and Fausto Brusamolino (lighting and live visuals) AEON invites us to cross time, from the origins of life to glimpses beyond its end.
Free falling they recall the past in order to imagine a future of infinite-love-possibility. Rhincodon cruise through oceanic malls, Bakunawa ride countercurrents all the way to the Skyscraper: Jaws of the Horizon aka The Edge. Future life forms abound vertically in the great continual unfolding…
This performance contains sonically amplified sound, flashing lights, possible nudity.
Duration: 45 minutes
