QUEER ART TRANSFORMS OUR CULTURE
Queer art reimagines who we are, and shows us who we could be.

Queer art critiques the narrow and normative cultural and societal structures that constrain us all. Queer art frees us to imagine alternatives. Supporting Queer art is fundamental to a healthy arts culture and a continued diversity of voices, practice, and vision.

HELP PSPACE TAKE QUEER ART TO NEW HORIZONS
PSpace has championed queer art for 40 years, and we’re now calling for your support to take this work to new heights, embedding it in Australia’s cultural landscape. Join as a founding member and donor of the PSpace Queer Art Lovers and support the expansion and ongoing development, commissioning and presenting of Queer experimental art at Performance Space.

JOIN US IN CREATING A QUEER FUTURE
Since our inception 40 years ago, PSpace played a leadership role in the national ecology of the experimental arts sector. With strong foundations laid, we are uniquely positioned to build on our strong vision; to grow and strengthen our support of the most radical and exciting queer practices through their entire life cycle, developing the artists, the sector and ultimately our Australian cultural conversation.

Strengthen the future of Queer Experimental Art with PSpace, and support a reimagining.

2021 ACHIEVEMENTS

Raised $75,000
Including $30,000 in Matched Funding
We were blown away by the coming together of community around the creation of the PSpace Queer Art Lovers in 2021. With your support we were able to exceed our goal and receive the $30,000 in matched funding from Creative Partnerships Australia.

Queer Development Program 2021
Responding to the changing conditions of the pandemic, we pivoted the Queer Development Program to an online format, providing a 3-day intensive program of workshops, mentorship and connection for 10 emerging queer artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds across Australia.

In addition to the workshops, we provided a commissioning fund for the artists to creatively develop new work.

We facilitated the Stephen Cummins Residency for Daley Rangi in their hometown of Perth. An interdisciplinary Maori-Australian artist, Daley began creating a new performance artwork under the mentorship of SJ Norman and Dino Dimitriadis.

We commissioned and presented not one but three new queer works for Liveworks 2021

  • Knowledge of Wounds, curated by SJ Norman & Joseph M Pierce
  • Hundreds + Thousands: Multi-City, by Luke George & Daniel Kok
  • Public Speaking, by Field Theory

Day for Night 2021
We transformed Day For Night 2021 in the most difficult of circumstances; presenting our first ever digital queer performance and party experience beamed directly into audience members’ homes. Audiences from across Australia tuned in, danced and partied, with performers even making in-person cameos delivering gifts to peoples’ homes. In a tumultuous time in the pandemic, Day for Night was a bright spot of joy and togetherness for the queer community.

Artist Development
We supported over 20 queer artists to develop, discuss and showcase their work across our other presentation and residency platforms, including Live Dreams, Live Futures and our Artist Development Program.

Major Presentation At Sydney Festival - Set Piece
We co-presented a major new queer performance work by Nat Randall and Anna Breckon in the Sydney Festival 2022: the critically-acclaimed Set Piece. Set Piece was an engrossing and hilarious investigation into queer relationships and is now set to tour nationally through 2022-23.

Bringing Together Queer Art Lovers
We hosted our Queer Art Lovers family in an intimate tour through Deborah Kelly’s work at the MCA with the artist, hosted by MCA Chief Curator Rachel Kent and PSpace Artistic Director and CEO Jeff Khan.

We saw you all with complimentary tickets and prosecco, at the Day For Night 2021 gathering.

We cheersed with many of you at An Afternoon With Pspace in December—as a little farewell to the year that had been—alongside exhibitions and performances by Cherine Fahd, Ivey Wawn and Julie-Anne Long.
