About Our Programs

Performance Space nurtures artists to create bold and uncompromising art. Staunchly artist-centred, our programs value, celebrate and support artists that work beyond institutional frameworks. 

PSpace has a diverse program which includes our major biennial festival of live art, Liveworks, our three flagship programs: the Queer Development Program, the Experimental Choreographic Program, and the Experimental Sound Program, as well as co-presentations with like-minded organisations, national and international exchanges and responsive partnerships such as the Asia Pacific Performance Lab. These are artist development initiatives that champion experimentation, diversity, and boundary-pushing performance across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

Rooted in collectivity and skill-sharing, these programs create space for artists at all stages of their careers to take creative risks, test new ideas, and expand their practice within a supportive professional environment. The Experimental Performance Fellowship is an opportunity for an Australian artist or collective to embark on a year-long, self-directed program of research with the aim of making a significant contribution to experimental performance in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

PSpace is proud to be leading the Experimental Commissioning Consortium, (ECC) – a new multi-year, multi-organisation initiative that scaffolds independent artists to make ambitious work. Devoted to the development and presentation of independent and experimental art and performance, the ECC seeks to foster cross-sector collaboration to generate increased mobility and opportunity for artists.

Community is integral to all things PSpace does, and this is something built from the beginning of our artists' careers. This is why we introduced our Youth Ambassadors program, which invites NSW based emerging artists aged 18 to 25 to engage deeply with the organisation’s rich history and cutting-edge experimental work.

Bringing together practitioners from across disciplines, cultures, and generations, PSpace offers time, resources, mentorship, and opportunities for public engagement, fostering a community where bold, innovative ideas can flourish. We invite audiences to join us on this creative journey, supporting groundbreaking independent artists at every stage of their work and witnessing the future of art and culture in the making.
