Day for Night

The sixth edition of our beloved queer performance and party extravaganza, Day For Night, is set to take you on an epic journey through queer space and time. Immerse yourself in a series of newly-commissioned performances and exquisite installations by some of the brightest and best queer artists from across the globe. As day becomes night, join us on the dancefloor as the artists reinvent and refigure their work for the glittering unfurling of Sydney’s hottest queer art party.

This year’s Day for Night presents a series of performances that create alternative forms of community and expand our ideas about what queer spaces can look and sound like. Often taking shape as quiet, playful or ritualistic interactions between performers and audience members, the 2019 Day for Night artists generously offer up new visions of community, before taking a deep breath and diving into the party.

Ngaiire, Nick Wales, Alyx Dennison, Stereogamous & Inner West Voices
Our queer art extravaganza commences with a dreamy synth soundscape accompanied by chocal vocals.

Nina Buchanan
Immerse yourself in a surround-sound composition: lie down and surrender to an intuitive, contemplative and deeply grounded experience of queerness.

Jermaine Dean
Step inside an immersive live photoshoot where you'll be captured within a dreamy makeshift set. Images are developed through a fantastical lens of pixellation, distortion and manipulation.

Th3 Order
Maori and Pacific perspectives are brought into the queer cosmology in this series of performances blending movement, music, comedy and drag for a spectacular celebration of bodies at the edge.

Zaya Barroso
Witness a range of performance vignettes that combine autobiographical performance with epic vocals as Zaya shares her experiences of resilience against trans haters and those who exploit power.

Samia Sayed & Anastasia Zavarinos
Intimate and personal experiences are recounted as bodies are dragged across the dancefloor in this encounter that challenges the power of normative relationships and how they’re connected to neoliberal ways of moving in this world.

Soft Core Bondage Faeries
Get all tied up by a chorus of connective-plasma-faeries who give gifts and initiate shared activities of platonic intimacy.

GIRL
Share your thoughts, fears and fantasies about masculinity before these recorded conversations are transformed into a killer live music performance.

Stereogamous
Sydney sonic sweethearts bring the love to the dance floor as they turn out fresh scores by day and colourful tracks by night.
