Ryuichi Fujimura
Ryuichi Fujimura is a Sydney based dancer with a unique journey into the world of dance. Following his migration from Japan to Australia, discovering the magic of dance in his late 20’s marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in his life. Professionally, he began his performance career in 2003 at the age of 39, participating in ensemble dance and theatre production under the direction and choreography of both Australia and international artists. Notable collaborations include working alongside Xavier le Roy, Justin Shoulder, Alan Schacher, Vicki can Hout, Tess de Quincey, Kate Sherman, and Jim Sharman among others. Ryuichi has also performed for renowned companies such as La Fura dels Baus, Force Majeure, Sydney Dance Company and Opera Australia. In 2013, he began creating his own choreographic work, culminating in the critically acclaimed HERE NOW trilogy. HERE NOW has toured internationally to Finland (2017), Taiwan (2018), and South Korea (2023), and nationally to Canberra (2022), Melbourne (2023 and 24) and Adelaide (2025).
In recent years, he has expanded his practice to encompass interdisciplinary collaborations with artists from diverse fields, including Mel O’Callaghan, WeiZen Ho, Laura Turner, Alicia Frankovich, Hamed Sadeghi, and Justene Williams. He is currently developing Finishing Touch (working title), a solo dance memoir in collaboration with Sarah Chase, a Canadian choreographer.
