Program Policy
Performance Space animates
Australia's cultural life through its imaginative
approach to the research, development and
presentation of hybrid arts practices. We
generate new ideas and experiences and encourage
the growth of artists, audiences and contemporary
culture.

Performance Space is an international
focal point for a diverse range of practitioners
and audiences committed to formally and
conceptually innovative interdisciplinary
and hybrid arts practices. We engage extensively
with independent artists, companies and
a range of peer organisations nationally
and internationally to present a curated
program of performance, time-based art (sound,
screen and video), and new media events
and installations. We offer extensive residency,
creative development, and training workshop
programs.
We advocate to audiences,
media and society at large on behalf of
artists engaged in experimental and hybrid
forms of practice and are actively involved
in expanding their audience base through
the development of national touring networks
and international exchange programs. We
facilitate debate and analysis of arts practice
as it exists in wider cultural and political
contexts through forums and symposiums.
We’re committed to intercultural and
cross-generational dialogue, to dynamic
ideas and processes, to an open relation
to the world about us and the diverse communities
and experiences that it encompasses, and
to excellence in all our activities.
